The Grocery Game: Non-Negotiables

Cracking the code of the perfect trip to the grocery store feels like trying to navigate the first two months of dating someone new.  I’m excited, a little overwhelmed and asking myself… am I going to like this new flavor of ice cream?

In this series, I will lay out all of my tips, tricks and proven strategies on grocery shopping for one.  My mother, Maureen the Grocery Queen (MGQ), brought me along weekly growing up and she’s got certain standards when it comes to purchasing.  To start, here are the Non-Negotiables according to MGQ:

  1. Shop for the week. – I refuse to go to the grocery store more than once in a seven day period – not only due to the global pandemic but I just don’t have time to waste.
  2. Stick to the list (sort of). – I make a list of my needs, refills of essentials and fun stuff but I give myself a little wiggle room with the 80-20 rule.
  3. Sales are your friend. – Each dollar I save on groceries is a dollar I can spend on wine, salon visits and unnecessary cat toys.

By following along to the Grocery Game series, I hope that you find weekly shopping to be less overwhelming and much more enjoyable. Let’s head to the store!
